Drone Photography for Golf Courses and Country Clubs in Connecticut
Golf course aerial photography is one of my favorite categories of drone work. The geometry of a well-designed course — the fairway corridors, the green complexes, the water hazards, the bunkering — looks completely different from above than from any ground position, and that visual distinctiveness is exactly what a club's marketing materials should be showing.
What aerials show that ground photography can't
A ground photo of the 18th green shows the green, the flag, maybe the clubhouse behind it. An aerial shot shows the full layout of the hole, the strategic challenge it presents, the relationship of the green to the water or bunkers guarding it, and the overall parkland setting that makes the course worth playing. For member recruiting, event marketing, and tournament promotion, that's the imagery that works.
I've shot several Connecticut clubs, and in every case the aerial photography became the primary visual for the club's website and marketing materials. The drone footage I shot at one Fairfield County club ended up as the background video on their website homepage — the kind of footage that conveys the atmosphere of the course in a way that nothing else can.
Course documentation and turf management
Beyond marketing, some clubs use aerial documentation for practical course management — tracking drainage issues, identifying turf stress patterns, documenting construction or renovation progress, and maintaining a visual record of course conditions over time. A drone can cover 18 holes in a single flight and produce detailed imagery of every area of the property, which is useful for superintendent planning and capital improvement discussions with the board.
What to expect from a golf course shoot
A typical marketing shoot for an 18-hole course takes 2–3 hours of flight time and produces comprehensive coverage: overview shots of the full course, individual hole documentation from multiple angles, clubhouse and facility coverage, and edited video reels suitable for web and social use. I schedule golf course work early in the morning for the best light and least disruption to play. Turnaround is 48–72 hours for edited photos and video.
